Biography

Scott Haze (born June 28, 1983, Dallas, Texas) is an American actor, director, producer, and playwright who trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory and Playhouse West before emerging from the Los Angeles theater scene. He founded and built the Sherry Theater in North Hollywood, where he produced a number of dramatic plays including several of his own works. His breakthrough came with James Franco's Child of God (2013), in which he played the feral outcast Lester Ballard; to prepare, he lived in an isolated cabin in the Tennessee woods, lost 45 pounds, and slept in caves. He also directed the documentary Mully (2015) about the African humanitarian Charles Mully, and is a frequent collaborator with Franco. His notable film credits include As I Lay Dying (2013) (James Franco, Jessica Chastain), Child of God (2013) (James Franco, Tye Sheridan), Midnight Special (2016) (Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst), In Dubious Battle (2016) (Kieran Culkin, Michael Peña), Thank You for Your Service (2017) (Miles Teller, Chris Evans), Only the Brave (2017) (Josh Brolin, Miles Teller), Venom (2018) (Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams), Zeroville (2019) (James Franco, Seth Rogen), Minari (2020) (Steven Yeun, Yeo Jeong-hye), Old Henry (2021) (Jason Momoa, Stephen Dorff), Antlers (2021) (Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons), Jurassic World Dominion (2022) (Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard), Sound of Freedom (2023) (Jim Caviezel, Bill Camp), and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 (2024) (Keanu Reeves, Taylor Kitsch).
